All in the the details: Reread that.

There’s an image floating about the ether that has a series of text where the word “the” is repeated twice. It says something like “I’ll bet you’ll never spot the the problem with this sentence.” However, due, in part, to the arrangement of the text in the shape of a rough pyramid, the repeated words are on separate lines and the reader usually misses their repetition. It’s a goofy gimmick meant to illustrate just how prone our brains are to seek out patterns, fill in blanks, and make guesses based on what we’re seeing. I didn’t break up the the’s but I still needed to point out the joke to my editor. So it goes.
