More cartoons can be found here: Facebook.com/TaberCartoons
Periodic Table of Elements – Four new man-made elements were added in 2016
LePage Blame Game feat. Racism – Governor LePage accuses the press of making him look like a racist
GOP Two Evils – Remember the primaries? Remember Iowa?
Palin Beat Poet – Sarah Palin endorses Trump in a garbled tirade of incoherent jargon and jingoism.
Birds of a Feather – LePage stumps for Chris Christie (imagine that, Trump wasn’t his first choice)
Rubio Robot – Talking points are good but it pays to be a little less robotic when on the debate stage. Rubio’s meltdown signaled the end of his chances at a presidential bid (but luck and money were still with him when he won his senate seat later in the year)
Einstein Gravitational Waves – Einstein’s theory of relativity was proven to be correct (or, at least, a portion of it was) when scientists discovered evidence of the gravitational waves predicted by Einstein
Jeb Drops Out – It looked like the path was getting clearer for Rubio–history tells another tale
Thomas Speaks – With Scalia’s death, perhaps Thomas will actually… speak?
Maine Caucus Ted vs Bernie – Don’t worry, Maine, you’ll eventually disappoint come the end of the year
Bernie and HRC Race – Sander’s message eclipsed and lived beyond his presidential bid whereas history paints a different story for Clinton
Obama’s Entourage – When Obama visited Raul Castro on a rainy day in Cuba, the American president brought with him a regular army of representatives for various corporations intent on sharing a little “capitalism”
Mt Pavlof Eruption – Thanks, Obama!
HRC’s Secret Weapon – Not every presidential hopeful is married to a former president
Cash in a Panamanian Bottle – Offshore accounts discovered in Panama laid bare the tax havens wealthy individuals and companies have been using for years to shelter their income
Grimminal Industries – Grimmel Industries has left a trail of destruction and pollution (to say nothing of the legal troubles) in every town and city they’ve set up operation–why don’t we invite them into Searsport?
Republican Avengers: Age of Trump – If two lesser evils defeat a greater evil, for the greater evilgood, is it good. or just evil?
Dems Divided – Pay special note to the hastags, especially the “Correct the Record”
Big Choices – What a mess
Tick Season in Maine – In every joke there is often an element of truth
Bathroom Wisdom – The so-called “Bathroom Bills” concerning the use of bathrooms by transgender, etc, individuals laid bare just how bizarre this political year had become–or so I thought
News Cycle Life Cycle – I’ve seen no evidence to contradict this observation
HRC & Friends – Thank goodness for insiders–amiright?
The Formula – Don’t worry, nothing will change (apart from soaring firearms sales)
Marionette – One has to wonder what to label the puppet master(s)
Brexit – It isn’t easy illustrating idioms
PHC Keillor Farewell – I usually shy away from what I see as celebrity homages. Keillor was something of a worthwhile exception for me.
Pokemon Go – I’m happy to admit this is my worst cartoon of the year.
Divisive Unity – As the old saying goes, “Politics makes for strange bedfellows”
Election 2016 – The reality of the bread and circus is being revealed
LePage Deep Freeze – Because nothing says prosperity like gutting whole agencies, and slashing salaries and benefits of as many positions as possible
The PendulCrum – Real quotes, real guy
Blinders – The lesser of the two evils, and all that
The Collector – Before the terrifying and infuriating cabinet appointments, 64 special advisers, and counting, were tapped to counsel the future president-elect
Magic Eight Ball – It should be noted in history books worldwide that I predicted the result of Maine’s democratic party’s response to the reprehensible behavior of Governor LePage: NOTHING
Labor Day – It’s amusing in a painfully true sort of way
The Governor’s Solution – “But our budget is in the black!” (Fun Fact: The Word is “Privatization.” Seems it slipped through my notice and that of my editor, the copy editor, and anyone else in the production staff–oops!)
Belfast Races – Local elections don’t seem to garner the same showing as those under prime time scrutiny
LePage’s Binder – Wow, imagine that, it was, indeed, fabricated
Fulford’s Battle – Dark Money: Affecting candidates near YOU
Bone 2016 – I still enjoy the graphic even if he did turn out to be something of a strange character
The Untier – Captions unnecessary
Trumpkin – Spellcheck says I’m wrong, history tells me I’m right
The Final Countdown – Cue Europe’s “The Final Countdown” song
The Day After – My cartoon’s are due Tuesday afternoons; Almost every leg of this election cycle, the big news and events occur Tuesday evenings or Wednesdays. This is an example of a general cartoon attempting to predict the future
Trump Change – From his own mouth
Trumpsgiving – Gather ’round, one and all
Tiananmen North Dakota – Not an unfair comparison given the history of the players involved
Carsen Chosen – He’s PERFECT
LePot – More illustrated idioms
Feeding Frenzy – It will be interesting to see whether it was a hack and by whom, a leak and by whom, or something else. The fact remains, no matter what the Mainstream Media might repeat until it appears as true, we do NOT know what happened (and likely won’t ever).
The Contender – Father Obama Time relinquishes his office to the orange man-child
